1 Computer Network
1.1 Designing Autonomous Decentralized Mechanism of Resource Allocation in large-scale and wide area networks
- Large-scale and wide-area networks are constituted by numerous nodes widely distributed in the world.
It is hard to gather information from the whole area of such a network. |
Hence, each node should autonomously works using the information of its surrounding area. |
- We have proposed the autonomous decentralized mechanism (ADM) to
indirectly control a system variable in the following paper.
- System variable is defined by a control objective (e.g., traffic reduction and load balancing).
- The autonomous action of nodes is designed by MCMC (Markov Chain Monte Carlo)

- We applied the proposed ADM to solve virtual machine (VM) placement problem in DCNs (Data Center Networks)
- What is the VM placement problem?
- According to a control objective, VMs are placed among PMs in a DCN.
- We consider the following two control objectives to design a placement controller based on the proposed ADM.
- 1) traffic reduction in a DCN, 2) load balancing among PMs
- The both objectives has a trade-off
- In the placement controller, each VM autonomously moves to a suitable physical machine (PM) in a DCN.
- What is the VM placement problem?
We should appropriately adjust the control strengths of the both objectives. |

2 Electricity Grid
2.1 Autonomous Decentralized Mechanism of Energy Interchange in Community Microgrid
- Renewable energy (e.g., sunlight and wind)
- Clean and inexhaustible
- The amount depends on geographical condition and time of day
Renewable energy is expected to be alternative power resource of conventional fuels. |
However, it is difficult to supply energy appropriately for energy demand. |
- Community microgrid
- An electricity system connected AESs(Autonomous Electricity Subsystems) in a community
- AES (e.g., home)
- Has generators, batteries, and electric loads.
- Can interchange energy in its own battery to an adjacent AES.
- AES (e.g., home)
- To realize supply energy appropriately for energy demand
- Excess energy should be transmitted to an AES with high energy demand
- An electricity system connected AESs(Autonomous Electricity Subsystems) in a community
We have proposed an autonomous decentralized mechanism of energy |
interchange to realize such an energy transmission in the following paper. |
