講義目的 Course Objectives
By the end of this course, students should be able to organize and deliver three types of scientific presentations in English: a basic individual 1-2 minute presentation, a group PowerPoint presentation based on student surveys, and a 2-4 minute individual PowerPoint presentation. During all of the above-mentioned presentations, students should be able to maintain eye contact for at least 50% of the time, control various aspects of body language, use understandable speech, and deliver organized, interesting scientific content within a time limit. Students should also be able to design and carry out a scientific survey and be able to create a professional PowerPoint file by the end of this course.
各回ごとの授業内容 Course Contents of Each Session
This course meets once a week, but the teacher will integrate instruction with the Reading II B and Writing II B courses often. This course is designed to build on the presentations skills learned in Communication I B and give students further practice with organizing and delivering professional quality presentations in English. This course should prepare students for any future professional presentations that may be necessary in their science-related careers.
授業方法 Methods of Instruction
This will be a workshop-based class in which the teacher will give clear instructions and guidance while the students prepare, practice and interact with each other in a variety of activities. Students will review previously learned skills as well as learn new presentation skills in class, practice those skills, and then be assessed on their mastery of those skills during various presentations.
